Literature for Early Readers-Hear Ye, Hear Ye!  Come One, Come All to this enchanting course where we will have fun playing with Fairy Tales. Topics covered: key ideas, details, story structure, and story writing.  A work sample opportunity will be provided. Recommended for grades TK-1, but all students are welcome.

MS/HS - Writing - Argumentation & MLA Formatting (S1)

Join us as we explore the elements of argumentation! In this course, we will start off with the basics of MLA formatting, work through a different rhetorical appeal (i.e. ethos, logos, pathos) each week, and also explore different rhetorical fallacies. We hope you join us and learn not only how to identify these elements in the world around you, but in your own work as well! A work sample opportunity will be provided. Recommended for grades 6-12, but all students are welcome.

Literature: comprehension and narrative writing- Children all over have enjoyed many of Eric Carle’s stories. From The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Mixed up Chameleon, The Grouchy Ladybug, and many others, Eric Carle has a unique style of story writing and art and his illustrations inspire readers to make more of their own! Let’s have some fun making colorful art like Eric Carle and writing our own story to go with it! Recommended for grades TK, 1 and 2, but all students are welcome.

MS/HS - Writing - Persuasive Writing (S2)

Overview

This course will dive deep into the skill of persuasive writing that all students have the opportunity to experience each year according to the California State Standards. We will work through each phase of the persuasive writing process - planning, drafting, revising - and the Workshop will culminate in each student writing a persuasive essay and presenting their topic in the last session as well to demonstrate speaking standards. A work sample opportunity will be provided. Recommended for grades 6-12, but all students are welcome.
