Informational text with narrative writing- There are many people who have made a big difference in our world. This Biography-themed course will help students better comprehend the unique structure of non-fiction and provide some basics on how to write their own biography. A work sample opportunity will be provided. Recommended for grades 2 and 3, but all students are welcome.

Language Arts - Upper - Fantastic Fables and Fiction! (S5)

Overview
Join us in Exploring Fiction/Literature! This course is all about fiction. Help your child build on their reading skills by making inferences and understanding figurative language in Fables and other fun stories! Students conclude the course with some tips for writing their own fable.
Recommended for grades 4 and 5, but all students are welcome.

Overview
In this five-week class, students will work on the practice of Informational Writing. They will be taken through the steps of using informational sources to support their writing, the practice of citing their sources, and further developing general writing skills. After reading and reflecting on an informative text, can you answer an opinion writing prompt? Write your opinion in an organized way that clearly states your topic and groups related ideas together, using facts and details from the text, that support your opinion. This course will further develop and provide opportunities to practice using the writing process: choosing a topic, making a plan, writing a draft, revising, and editing. A work sample opportunity will be provided.
Recommended for grades 4 but all students are welcome.

Science - Lower -Sun, Moon, and Stars, Oh My! (S5)

Students will learn about the purpose of the sun, moon, stars, and planets in this 4-week study! We will learn all about the planets in our solar system as well as the moon and each of its phases. Get ready to create your own sundial and make hats with each of our planets on them. Let’s explore outer space!
A work sample opportunity will be provided. Recommended for grades TK-1, but all students are welcome.
